1-2 Finish at Schumacher Masters
This last weekend was the Round 2 of the Schumacher Sponsored Worksop Indoor Masters series. With a 160+ entries it was due to be a long day, but shows the great job the organisers do, making it the biggest Off-Road indoor series in Europe.
Qualifying was very tight in both classes with top 3-5 in each class been separated by very little in lap times, and no single driver showing dominance. After qualifying was done there were 2 Schumacher’s in both A finals, with Tom Cockerill qualifying 3rd in both classes and Greg Williams also in the final.
The 2wd final was a very close affair with top 4 breaking away from the pack within a couple of laps. The race between these 4 drivers was an excellent show, with very clean driving and never more than 2 seconds between the 4 of them. Unfortunately Tom made an error on the last lap whilst running second and ended up 4th, with Greg coming home in 9th.
The 4wd final was again looking to be a very close race, with very little in lap times between the top 3 drivers. However, a coming together on lap 2 between the top 2 allowed Tom to nip up the inside, into a lead he would never relinquish. However, it wasn’t race over yet. Greg Williams found his way up to 2nd place, and with a great drive under pressure for the next 2 minutes managed to hold second place, and preceded to chase down Tom. The last two minutes saw Tom come under pressure from Greg, with the gap at around 1 second, until the last lap when Greg made a slight error, allowing Tom to cruise to the line for the win, and Greg followed to make it a Schumacher 1-2.
Also, a big well done to Jack Neal, who after a poor start from pole in his C final, drove an excellent race to come through for the win.
