This weekend UK Factory Drivers Simon Moss and Tom Cockerill travelled to Odense, Denmark for the 14th running of the DHI Cup, a long standing event that is seen as the opening race of the European season for many drivers. The DHI Cup is a unique event, with both on and off road tracks running at the same time. This gives a great feeling to the event as there are many more drivers in attendance to a single event than normally experienced. As usual the guys behind the event put down two great tracks, similar in layout to last year’s event, but with this the only race held at this venue each year, it was the same starting point for every driver.
The 2wd event was a very close race between several drivers, with very little separating the top guys throughout practice, qualifying and the finals. Although slow starting, Tom Cockerill came good towards the end of qualifying to place his Schumacher Cougar KF 2nd on the grid, and took the first two legs of the A main to become DHI 2wd Champion 2014, a great start to the season. Tom was joined in the A main by Swedish Privateer Thomas Andersson driving his KF to 10th. Simon Moss was unlucky to make the main, ending up in the B final, but proving his pace by taking a convincing win. In 4wd the racing was even faster and closer throughout the A main field. Tom Cockerill would qualify his K1 Aero 4th on the grid, and despite trying everything possible couldn't move up the order, finishing 4th overall. Simon Moss, still having bad luck through qualifying, would only manage 9th on the grid, moving up to 8th overall after the 3 legs.
