The fantastic Cotswolds Club was the venue of the race this weekend, many drivers turned up on Saturday for some track time, however there was some running during the day but some heavy downpours of rain meant that the track was wet for most of the day.
Sunday morning and everyone was glad to see the sunshine out with us, luckily this stayed with us through the whole day.
A great entry of 12 heats was brilliant to see, and also many drivers commenting how much fun they are having this year at the BTCC and what a fantastic Series it is to race at - lovely to hear!
Schumacher's Mark Musgrove along with Ian Coates and Steve Woodhams from the Cotswolds club, and race director Stephen Fabray explained the format for the event and all of the information to the drivers.
After all 4 rounds of qualifying was over the top 10 in each class was as follows:
1 Olly Jefferies
2 Elliott Harper
3 Colin Price Schumacher Mi5evo
4 Chris Grainger Schumacher Mi5evo
5 Stefan Chodzynski
6 James Hart
7 Matthew White Schumacher Mi5evo
8 Sam Clifton Schumacher Mi5evo
9 John Pape Schumacher Mi5evo
10 Adam Catchpole
At the start of the A final Olly Jefferies managed to hold his lead to Elliott Harper, however Chris Grainger managed to pull of a fantastic move on team mate Colin Price and managed to start the chase to the lead pair,
within a couple of laps Chris had managed to close right in on the boot lid of Elliott who was also pushing Olly very hard. It was a pleasure to watch such a great close race between these 3 for the whole duration, there was never more than half a second between all 3 cars on track.
When the 5 minutes was up it was Olly who held on to take a great victory from Elliott second and Chris in third, just 3 tenths of a second seperated all 3 cars as they crossed the finishing line.
In the very popular 13.5 class it was as close as the modified racing had been.
Here is the overall qualifying positions:
1 Chris Gunter Schumacher Mi5evo
2 Darren Lee Schumacher Mi5evo
3 Zak Finlay
4 James Baker
5 Mark Giaquinto Schumacher Mi5evo
6 Lee Price Schumacher Mi5evo
7 Mark Wallace Schumacher Mi5evo
8 Matthew Chandler
9 Luke Bennetts Schumacher Mi5evo
10 Rob West Schumacher Mi5evo
Just like the modified class there was a great battle between the top 3 all race, with Darren Lee managing to pass Chris Gunter for the lead early on which he would hold until the end. Just behind this on track Chris and Zak was having an awesome battle for 2nd, Chris managed to hold on to this until the very last lap,
he went slightly wide just coming onto the main back straight which allowed Zak to sneak through up the inside to 2nd place, so Zak finished 2nd and Chris 3rd.
In the 17.5 class there were also some great close racing, here is the top 10 after qualifying:
1 Michael Ball
2 Daniel Blake
3 John Timberlake
4 Louis Fiddes
5 Kris Kennedy Schumacher Mi5evo
6 Jon Townsend
7 Jamie Somerville
8 Bradley Coaker
9 Ray Chiu
10 Chris Townsend
A great start once again from the top 3 and they managed to open up a gap to the rest of the chasing pack, some close racing action was had further down the field also.
TQ man Michael Ball managed to handle the early pressure from both Daniel and John, which also enabled him to open up a gap to them, this saw him lead from start to finish of the race with a great drive. Daniel came home 2nd and John 3rd.
After the racing we did the trophy and sweet presentation and also the famous Schumacher raffle, congratulations to all the lucky winners of the prizes. Here are a couple of them happy with what they won!
As always a huge thank you to everyone that attended the event, glad you all had a great time and many of you left with a smile on your face.
A huge thanks must go to the guys at the Cotswolds club who helped organise things for this event and to run Scrutineering, to Stephen Fabray for running race control and as always a massive thanks to the one and only Kris Kennedy, the atmosphere was once again electric for the finals! As I mentioned earlier many people commented on what a great series
this is to race in, without you people it wouldnt be possible, so a huge thank you.
The final round of the series is at Mendip on 27th July, we hope to see you all there. Booking in at: www.centralbooking.org
