This weekend saw Chadderton host Round 2 of the Oople winter series, bringing many drivers from the North East and North West regions together within the usual fun environment the Oople races bring.
The track consisted of a slippery Gymnasium Cork floor, with a tight and twisty layout, with big, small jumps. Two bumpy Gym matt corners completed the lap with both high and low speed corners, all in all, a fairly demanding track, where smoothness and keeping the car moving forward was key.
As this was Oople race, free practice rained for about 1 ½ hours during the morning, giving drivers time to get fully suited to the circuit, and get some good tweaks on the car. A switch from standard Schumacher Minipins to the Minipin 2 found a good increase in rear traction.
In qualification an 11 car heat made overtaking seem continuous especially from 10th car off, and had difficulties coming thought the pack. Throughout the day things seem to settle down and some good setup changes saw Team Schumacher Driver Richard Taylor qualify 2nd with his Cougar KF2 from Craig Collinson, with racing getting closer as the drivers dialled their cars in heading towards finals time.
The A main proved to be a good race with some good close racing between Craig and Richard but Richard came out on top with the Cougar KF2 from Craig Collinson 2nd and Mark Smith in 3rd.
Congratulations to Richard on the win!
