May 8th saw the running of Round 1 of the Irish 1/10 Off-Road National Series. Both 2wd and 4wd were run on the same day. The venue was in Dublin and hosted by the Dublin Model Car Club. With a tight, tricky indoor carpet surface the racing was guaranteed to be close and exciting.
Dylan Mcburney opened his national season in style and dominated qualifying by winning all the qualifying heats and securing TQ in both classes. Denzell McBurney, having some qualifying issues, finished with 3rd in 4wd and 5th in 2wd. New Schumacher drivers Alan Thompson and Adam Keegan showed their true speed this weekend by qualifying 3rd and 4th in 2wd and easily mixing it with some of the more seasoned competitors. With Kevin White qualifying in 8th, that made it 5 Schumacher’s in the top 8.
Onto the finals and Dylan made a good recovery from a 2nd in the first 2wd final to win the remaining 2 legs to bring home 1st overall in 2wd. Denzell managed to improve on his qualifying and took 3rd overall in 2wd.
In 4wd, Dylan continued his performance and won all three legs of the A Final with Denzell finishing 3rd.
A great result for Schumacher taking 1st and 3rd in both 2wd and 4wd. Congratulations to Dylan for taking his first double National win and Good Luck for Round 2.
