This weekend it was time to visit the Stafford circuit in the Midlands, with the team at Stafford doing a great job to get the track well prepared, it was looking in great condition.
Saturday saw some drivers turn up to try and get some practice and get their cars set to their liking, however they managed to get a few runs between the rain showers until a huge downpour ended things in the afternoon.
Sunday morning we were greeted by a damp race track and had showers on and off throughout the day. First off we had the open practice session for an hour and then it was into qualifying mode.
Stafford's John Robson and Schumacher’s Mark Musgrove gave the drivers briefing and explained the details for the day. This was the regular format of round by round qualifying, with 2 from 4 rounds to count.
We also had a 45 minute lunch break in the time schedule so this made things a little easier for drivers, it meant they had chance to stop for some lunch.
The modified class was unfortunately low on entries, we think this is due to some of the top drivers away on duty at the Worlds event in China and also due to there being no Modified National event this year at the track.
However for the drivers that were there, they had a great time and enjoyed themselves. It was Olly Jefferies who would TQ all 4 rounds and line up on Pole ahead of David Hall and Marcus Askell.
In the 13.5 class it was extremely close between Zak Finlay, Andy Murray and James Hart. After 3 rounds of qualifying all 3 drivers had a first and second in round so it was all down to the final round to decide the grid.
Zak TQ'd the fourth round so would line up on Pole ahead of Andy and James.
In the 17.5 class it was also very close between local driver David Hough, Paul Coleman, Adrian Sully and Michael Ball. Just one point separated all four drivers so the finals were shaping up to be close.
So it was then time for the finals, the results were as follows:
Modified 1 Olly Jefferies 2 Marcus Askell 3 David Hall 4 Ben Gayson
13.5 Boosted 1 Zak Finlay 2 James Hart 3 Andrew Robson 4 Andy Murray 5 Alex Brocklebank 6 Mikey Mansell 7 James Robinson 8 Aidan Ripley 9 Matthew Willocks 10 Scott Scholey
17.5 Blinky 1 Michael Ball 2 David Hough 3 Nick Turner 4 Chris Parrott 5 Dave Ringsell 6 Paul Coleman 7 Nigel Shaw 8 Andrew Bird 9 Martin Flower 10 Adrian Sully
Some great close racing in the finals that hopefully you will have seen, well done to the winners!
Next up was the presentation followed by the Schumacher raffle.
Congratulations go to Andrew Robson for winning the star prize of the Sky RC tyre sander.
Even though the entry numbers were a little lower than previous rounds, all in attendance had a great time. It was also very nice to hear so many people around the prize giving area saying what a great event it had been.
To the local racers that said "Wow is this how friendly and enjoyable every round of the BTCC is?" The answer to your question........ Yes for sure, this is how the Series usually is as we travel around the Country! We hope to see you at some other rounds again with us in the future.
Huge thanks to John Robson and the Stafford team for everything, race control and scrutineering ran like clockwork all day.
Also thanks to Kris Kennedy for the commentary and also creating a great atmosphere throughout the finals.
Did someone mention clockwork............. Announcement time!!!
Talking of clocks, the final round of this year's BTCC moves onto West London in 2 week's time, this event will also be ran in conjunction with the KO GP and as some of you will know, there is a traditional fantastic KO clock up for grabs for the winner.
The event this year on Sunday 4th September will be ran like all other BTCC events, so just the one day event, however the track will be open on the Saturday for practice as usual.
Due to this being the KO GP, there are some great KO prizes that will be given away at the event along with the traditional Schumacher raffle as well.
More information will be available very soon on the Schumacher website, so stay tuned here: www.racing-cars.com
Entries are already open and coming in, places are still available in all three classes, so come and get booked in and join us for a fantastic season finale: www.centralbooking.org
Spread the word please and we hope to see you there.
