Schumacher BTCC 2017 Rd 1 Aldershot  03/05/2017

The new series has started at the slightly revised Aldershot racing circuit.

The fast chicane as you come on to the main straight has been slightly changed, meaning all drivers would have to start from scratch to find the fast and consistent lines.

There were drivers in attendance on Saturday for some practice and to get their cars set up to their liking and to master the chicane.

On to Sunday and race day, the weather was dry but it was quite windy which seemed to affect the cars as they went round the fast circuit.

Due to slightly lower entry numbers for this round, it was decided the qualifying format was round by round and 2 from 4 to count towards the final qualifying position.

We also managed to do 2 finals for all competitors in all finals.

In the 17.5 blinky class this had the largest number of entries, Schumacher's Glenn Westwood would dominate qualifying all day and take TQ in all 4 rounds. Ahead of Richard Brown and Joe Jenyavanija.

In the 13.5 blinky class Matt Quinlisk would line up on pole ahead of Jamie Vassallo and Jason Butterfield.

The 13.5 boosted class would see Tim Hancock on pole from Jay Westwood and Damian Giddins.

In modified it was Dave Pitcher on pole, from Alex Gardiner and Ashley Sully-Hicks.

Next it was onto the finals, after both legs of the A finals, here are the results as follows:

17.5 Blinky
1 Glenn Westwood
2 Joe Jenyavanija
3 David Clift

13.5 Blinky
1 Matt Quinlisk
2 Ben Cane
3 Jamie Vassallo

13.5 Boosted
1 Tim Hancock
2 Jay Westwood
3 Damian Giddins

Modified
1 Dave Pitcher
2 Alex Gardiner
3 Ashley Sully-Hicks

So after all of the excellent close racing in the finals, we had the presentation for the winners and top 3 in each final, this was followed by the traditional Schumacher raffle.
Congratulations go to Ashley Sully-Hicks for winning the star prize of the Fantom battery pack.

Lots of drivers commented on what a great event it was and how much they had enjoyed it, great to hear from you all and glad you had a good time.

Please tell all of your friends on what a great friendly series the BTCC is and we hope to see many of you racing with us at future rounds.

Many thanks to the Aldershot team for everything you did with us, the track was in great condition and a brilliant job done by all.

A huge thanks especially to Ben on race control and to Richard Graco on scutineering, who did a great job all day.

The next round will see us at Bedworth on Sunday 28th May. Entries still available on what will be the last event at the current club, come and show your support and get booked in: www.centralbooking.org

It would be great to see you there.
